The IT industry is pretty strong in India, with innovations and new technologies happening every day. The policies of the present Indian government have fostered relationship with several top international companies in India, who have also expressed their interest in investing in the country.

Here is a brief overview of some of the best IT companies in India.

10. Rolta India

Rolta India is a company that was established in 1989 and headquartered in Mumbai with offices in Gurgaon and Canada. A magazine, Fortune 500 named Rolta India as one of the best 500 companies in India. This is not just an IT company, but houses over 5000 professionals to provide services in the field of geospatial engineering design, consulting services, software services and systems integration.

9. Mphasis

Mphasis was known as Mphasis BFL Limited when it was first formed in 2000 as a result of the merger between MphasiS Corporation, a US-based IT consulting company and BFL Software Limited, an Indian IT services company. A good majority of the shares of BFL software was owned by Hewlett-Packard. Currently, the company is involved in niched services like Applications Services Outsourcing, Infrastructure Technology Outsourcing and Business Process Outsourcing services. In February 2014, the company changed its name and logo, and now it is known as Mphasis Unleash the Next. The company employs around 50,000 people.

8. Infosys Technologies Ltd

Infosys Technologies Ltd was founded in 1981 with just 7 people and with a capital of $250. Now the revenue is over $4 billion with over 95,000 employees. According to Forbes, Infosys is one of the Global High Performers. N R Narayana Murthy was the visionary behind the company. The present CEO and MD of Infosys is Vishal Sikka. Being an Indian multinational company, the company has its headquarters at Electronics City, Bangalore, Karnataka and is active in the field of business consulting, software engineering, information technology and BPO services.

7. HCL Technologies

HCL Technologies is a company that works under the umbrella services of IT and engineering services. It is well known for its high resource base, comprising of about 90,190 employees. HCL Technologies is mentioned in the list of Asia’s Fab 50 Companies as well as in Forbes Global 2000 list. The company’s unique mission – “Employees first, Customer Second” serves as a motivational factor for all the employees to deliver value-added services to their customers. The company also works in the field of IT infrastructure management, enterprise application services, custom application services, engineering services and R&D.

6. TCS

Tata Consultancy Services was started in 1968 and initially, it functioned as a division of Tata Sons Limited, under the founders J. R. D. Tata and F. C. Kohli. Later on in 1995, the company became a separate entity. Under the leadership of Natarajan Chandrasekaran, who became the CEO in 2009, the company procured several milestones. TCS now operates in 46 countries.

5. Mindtree

Mindtree, a company led by Mr. Subrorto Bagchi and Mr. Krishnakumar Natarajan has its headquarters at Bangalore and a corporate office at New Jersey. The two founders already had a strong base in the IT industry when they started the company. Currently, they have 28 offices in USA alone. The company was founded in 1999, and there are over 14,000 employees who jointly produce an annual turnover of $583 million. Services are provided in the field of IT consulting, performance testing and infrastructure management.

4. Cognizant Technology Solutions

Cognizant Technology Solutions is a global leader and a multi-national company that concentrates on providing excellent services in the field of IT, business processes and consulting. Headquartered in Teaneck, New Jersey, the company was founded in 1994, with key talents John E. Klein (Chairman) and Francisco D’Souza (CEO). They have forged a strong relationship with India and two-third of the employees are based in the country.

3. Wipro

The company was not related to anything remote in the field of IT when it started as a vegetable oil manufacturing company in 1945 by Mohamed Hasham Premji. The company moved on to produce consumer goods until the death of Hasham Premji. It was Azim Premiji, who took over the reins of the company when his father passed away. The company was renamed Wipro Ltd. from Wipro Products in 1981, with a view to venturing into the IT field. Currently, the company has 130,000 employees and clients in 54 countries.

2. Oracle Financial Services

Oracle Financial Services was started as a subsidiary of Oracle Corporation in 1990 and had its headquarters in Mumbai. Currently, the company represents over 84 countries and has more than 32 business partners. Rajest Hukku was the founder of the company and the current CEO is Chaitanya M. Kamat. Oracle is an IT solution provider and works exclusively for the banking sector.

International Business Machines Corp. is an information technology company and quite well known in the IT industry for providing integrated solutions through five main segments – Global Technology Services, Global Business Services, Software, Systems & Technology and Global Financing. It is their Global Technology Services that provides IT integrated services and business process services across the globe. The company also provides Integrated Technology Services to help their clients optimise their IT solutions. The company was originally an American multinational technology and consulting corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York. IBM India Private Limited is the Indian subsidiary of the main IBM.
